Licensing Questions, Answered
The things picture editors and buyers ask most often.
Can I license these images for commercial and advertising use?
Yes. Every image in the archive is available for commercial, advertising, corporate and editorial licensing, on either rights-managed or royalty-free terms. Licences are issued directly by Piemags Aviation, so there is no agency in between and no third party to chase.
What is the difference between rights-managed and royalty-free?
A rights-managed licence is priced and scoped for one defined use, covering the medium, territory, size and duration you need. A royalty-free licence is a single fee for broad ongoing use within the licence terms. If you are unsure which suits the job, describe the use and you will be advised directly.
How quickly can you supply an image on a press deadline?
High-resolution files download instantly from any image page once licensed, at any hour. For anything needing a search, a specific airframe or a licence question, you deal directly with the photographer rather than a support queue, and deadline requests are treated as deadline requests.
What is Aviation PhotoCrew, and how is Piemags connected to it?
Aviation PhotoCrew is the air-to-air photography team that holds the world record for the most aerial photo and video join-ups, flown from the Skyvan photoship over twenty years. Piemags Aviation is its sole representative, so their air-to-air collection is licensed here and nowhere else.
Can I commission new air-to-air photography, or fly on a photomission?
Yes, both. Commissions for new air-to-air work can be arranged through Piemags Aviation, and places on Aviation PhotoCrew photomissions are open to aviation photographers. Get in touch with the aircraft type or the project in mind and you will get a straight answer on what is possible.
Do you sell prints as well as licences?
Yes. Museum-quality fine-art prints on archival paper can be ordered direct from any image page and are shipped worldwide. Licensing and prints are separate: buying a print does not include reproduction rights, and a licence does not include a physical print.
“I had the pleasure of getting to know Piemags Aviation and using their services and historical archives. Thank you for your helpfulness and professionalism, as well as your ability to understand the needs of the person on the other side of the screen. Highly recommended.”

A UK aviation archive for publishers, agencies and brands
Piemags Aviation is a UK-based aviation photography archive supplying high-resolution images for commercial licensing, editorial use and fine-art prints to publishers, agencies, brands and enthusiasts worldwide.
Every subject in modern and historic aviation
The collection spans military fast jets and modern combat aircraft, commercial airliners and airline liveries, business and general aviation, helicopters, and historic warbirds from both World Wars. You will also find extensive airshow and display flying coverage from major events such as the Royal International Air Tattoo and Athens Flying Week, alongside a deep historical archive of rare and retired aircraft types.
Air-to-air photography
Piemags Aviation is the sole representative for Aviation PhotoCrew. The Skyvan photoship they fly from is a short take-off transport with a full-width rear door, which opens in flight so photographers can shoot straight back at the formation, and it is what makes the perspective in these images possible. Browse the air-to-air collection to license them.
Licensing, downloads and fine-art prints
Every image is available for rights-managed and royalty-free licensing, covering advertising, corporate, editorial and press use, with instant high-resolution downloads and clear licence terms. The archive is fully keyworded so picture editors and designers can find the right aircraft, squadron, location or airshow quickly, even on a tight deadline. Museum-quality fine-art prints can be ordered direct from any image page.
Browse the galleries
Start with the Historic Archives for rare and retired types, the Paul Fearn Collection for military, civil and warbird subjects, or the full galleries index to search the entire aviation archive. Longer reads on aircraft, squadrons and airshows are published in the Journal. For commissions, bulk licensing or editorial enquiries, get in touch and you will deal directly with the photographer. Piemags also licenses AI training datasets, image-text pairs built from the wider archive for machine learning.
